Divisions of Christ at Corinth
1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
Goal to be Likeminded in Christ at Corinth
Php 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Christ divided, divisions of Christ, and this is Corinth? Christ divided sounds like western Christianity, or Christ -ianity. Take two letters out of ianity and add an apostrophe, then with a little rearranging you have this i.e. “ain’t”. Ain’t this the way it is? Ask yourself really truthfully?
In this context above we come to Communion. When I think of communion in a biblical sense, that is, a modern church definition I come to the ordinance of Communion. That place where Christians come to church and take the bread or wafer and a small portion cup of grape juice. Every church and denomination who call themselves to walk within standard teachings of the New Testament church do this, even though, many do it in differing ways. Yet today as I speak of Communion I speak of a Communion in Christ. That connection, in which, a believer is to be firmly rooted. This is not only through the typical wafer or bread and grape juice Communion, but through an intense living breathing relationship with the living God.
If we stop at the simple ceremony that most churches call Communion and call it good, then we fall short of what this really means. It goes beyond man-made doctrines and denominations. It is as Paul wrote to the Philippians above telling them to “fulfill my joy”. I can see most Pastors trying to tell carnal secularized religious Christianity to “fulfill my joy.” Well it is not a pretty picture. There would be “joy” alright, but it would be the congregations smirking and laughing at the thought of them really “fulfilling the joy” of their spiritual leader. Paul here meant it as a Spiritual Father to the Philippians. He longed for them to understand this concept. In order to make a difference in the Paganized Roman Empire they had to be in unity. Unity of spirit, body, and mind; with all three sourced out of the Holy Ghost and the Word of God. It is these two, meaning; the Holy Ghost and the Word of God that directly bring the purposes of Christ and his presence into their lives and midst. In order to do this though, the ego of men and their ways had to go. In these Paul gave them three areas to do this. All three had to come out of the believer’s devotion to Jesus Christ and their longing to see his kingdom rise to greater heights. This would affect all around them. For if they truly sought God and devoted themselves to being “likeminded”, then nothing could stop them. There would be no splits, no division, nothing that the devil could use to destroy the move of God in Philippi. So Paul said, “fulfill my joy and be likeminded”. This likeminded would entail “having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” It is then as true love in Christ is employed in the lives of believer’s, then being in one accord and of one mind follows. We find the concept that Paul told the Philippian’s in two other places. In Philippian’s 3:16, Paul says “let us mind the same thing.” Again here is unity among brethren. Then in Philippian’s 4:2, Paul says to two brethren that “they be of the same mind in the Lord.”
Php 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
Php 4:2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
Christ Disunity of Divisions: Forsaking “being of the same mind”:
The disunity of divisions, well that is what I call the American church scene today. If I were to mention all the denominations in America alone it would be staggering. Add to this the number of home fellowships and other meetings that would be co-opted in this group and the total number of Christians would be truly astounding. Nevertheless it is hard to get them to really agree on the same thing. But if you were to ask yourself why we have so many of these denominations the answer would boil down to one thing. Man’s pride and sin. The word denomination according to the Encarta dictionary means “a religious grouping.” That is, a religious grouping within a faith that has its own system of organization. This means in America we have umpteen denominations that have organized within a faith having their own system of organization. Now we also have many faiths with these denominations. Even within the Christian name plate we have many of differing faiths who call themselves Christians. Talk about confusing.
The question then must be asked “how can we be likeminded” when so many have differing ideas, teachings, and organizational structures?” Well, we cannot. The truth is, even if they don’t admit it; man is in the way. I believe that many of these church denominations have lost the power and presence of the Holy Ghost. In other words, the glory of God has departed. What stands today is organized, secular, and man created religious institutions.
In short, “the Jezebel spirit invaded the Pastors, Evangelists, Prophets, Apostles, and other leaders. Then this spirit spewed forth from the church leaderships over the decades. As a result the congregations became infected with the same Jezebel spirit.” Then the church became a harlot. Now not all are such as this, but many have indeed become and pursue the ways of a Harlot. The Watchman on Warn Radio
They have the outward appearance of Christianity, but inwardly are full of dead man’s bones. They have lost the power, the presence, and the truth of the gospel. Not to mention forsaking the foundations of the true teachings of the Lord. It is purely man made when men decide to create their own divisions within the truth of the gospel. Of course this started during the time of Paul. Paul addressed this issue when the Corinth believers started to form into separate and distinct classes within the faith of Christ. Paul tells them to speak the same thing, that there be no divisions among them, and that they be perfectly joined together. They cannot be perfectly joined together if they are separated into classes or denominations as we call them. Paul further came to understand that in this Corinth group as he wrote saying “there are contentions.” Who to follow became the question. This arose out of men’s pride, stubbornness, and refusal to know Christ. Here people disagreed, argued, and thus it became a rivalry as to whom to follow! Some wanted the first Corinth church of Paul; others wanted the church of Apollos, while other sought the True church of Cephas. Then there were those who sought to be in the church of Christ. The question again to you and all of us is the one Paul asks here. “Is Christ divided? The answer is no, yet in America and the world Christ is divided. In short, a house divided against itself will not stand. That is why this will be judged in the years to come. The Lord died for all men and said “if I be lifted up, I will draw all men to myself.” There is to be no “division of Christ.” Yet in our modern fundamental Christian religiosity we have done just that. Then we have put modern tools, methods, and means to push our new religious ideals on the world. In short, these are good for pushing religious Christianity. But it falls short of the true Church and the power, unity, and love that Christ intended.
Christ and Corinth:
1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1Co 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
Christ Divided:
Paul further said in Chapter three to the Corinth group “ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? “For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?” There is no difference today, no matter how we argue this point. Man for centuries has walked in envy, strife, division, and carnality in the church. He has built massive institutional denominations in the Christian faith. Man won’t listen, the denominations won’t heed, and many today are asleep on this issue and in the pews of the churches they attend. Is it any wonder that America has the most Christian churches, denominations, ministers, seminaries for pastors, and theologians; not to mention evangelists, prophets, and teachers and still America is headed for judgment? Why? Because the churches have failed, all the ammunition we have is religious division, carnality, envy, and secular tools to push a religious Christianity without power. We have 80% approx. of the world’s churches, pastors, and Christian leaders and America is pagan. America is multi-paganish. America is a fornicating whore and lubricating the wheels of darkness with her lusts and the church is holding the oil to keep the wheels going nicely. The church is a harlot, a jezebel, and leading thousands down a rat hole of destruction. They won’t listen, nor heed any of this. Yet, it will happen. When it does, they will wonder what happened! The answer is the same one Paul gave and it is summed up in the verses below. Simply put, the churches are and have been walking in the “vanity of their mind.” It is time to put off this conversation we have had in time past and repent and seek the Lord.
1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
